Marjocri was founded in 1980 in Amarante by Ana Machado and António Cardoso. The name comes from the first letters of their three children's names, Marlene, Jorge, Cristina, and the business has remained in the family for 46 years. What started with hand embroidery, then evolved through wholesale knitwear distribution, has now become what we are today: a private-label fully fashioned knitwear manufacturer working exclusively with brands.
We operate nine flat-bed knitting machines from Stoll and Shima Seiki, across gauges 5, 7, 12, and 14. Gauge 5 handles heavy lambswool; gauge 14 handles fine merino. This range allows us to produce across the full spectrum of flat-knit construction, from substantial winter pieces to lightweight layering. Every garment is knitted to shape, fully fashioned, which means zero wasted fabric and panels that fit together with precision from the moment they leave the machine. We are equipped for jacquard, intarsia, links-links, and structured panel work.
The production process runs in four integrated stages. First: design and development, we translate your brief into the reality of flat-knit, running construction studies, yarn tests, and tension trials. Second: knitting on the flat-bed machines. Third: linking, washing, pressing, and hand finishing. Fourth: delivery with transparent timelines and traceable batches, so you always know where your order is. Every development is confidential. We do not share client names, designs, or partnership details without written consent.
We hold four active certifications: RWS (Responsible Wool Standard), OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I, the most demanding class, valid for products in direct contact with infant skin, GRS (Global Recycled Standard), and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council for sustainable fibre sourcing). CO₂ is accounted for per production batch. We use recycled, regenerated, organic, and bio-based fibres as standard. 62% of our 120,000 annual pieces are exported, primarily to Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Finland.
