Malhas da Torre was founded in 1974 in Santo Tirso, in the Porto metropolitan area, as a family business specialising in babies and children's knitted outerwear. Fifty years later, the company has expanded across age groups and market segments and today produces knitwear for worldwide fashion brands, designers, online retailers, and independent stores.
Our machinery is the foundation. We operate Shima Seiki and Stoll flat-bed knitting machines across six gauges — 3gg, 5gg, 7gg, 12gg, 14gg, and 16gg. That range covers the full spectrum of flat-knit construction, from heavy wool structures at the coarser gauges to fine merino and cashmere layers at 14gg and 16gg. We produce over 100 original designs every month. Quality control runs personally on every single garment before it leaves the building.
Our production process runs in six integrated stages: Design and Sampling, Manufacturing, Yarns, Sourcing, Quality Control, and Fulfilment and Storage. Creative staff and technicians work closely together from brief to finished piece. We offer full advisory support throughout the design and sampling process, and our minimum order quantities are deliberately low to make us accessible for brands at every stage of growth.
Sustainability is built into how we operate. We use almost exclusively green energy from renewable sources, and are continuously reducing emissions and consumption across our facilities. Investment support from the PRR, Norte 2020, and Norte 2030 programmes reflects our commitment to long-term development and modernisation.
