Alternatives to Sewport, Makers Row, Foursource and Alibaba for Clothing Brands (2026)
Matias Santos, Founder·
Sewport, Makers Row, Foursource and Alibaba solve different problems: a global brief-and-proposal marketplace, a US-focused directory, a supplier network for professional buyers, and a global B2B marketplace with escrow. Here is how each works, what it publishes about pricing, and the alternatives.
What are the best alternatives to Sewport, Makers Row, Foursource and Alibaba?
The right alternative depends on what you need: a platform for a specific production country, a directory to contact factories yourself, a sourcing agent who does the work for a fee, or a trade show to meet factories in person. The four platforms in this guide differ more than they look: Sewport is a global brief-and-proposal marketplace, Makers Row focuses on US manufacturers, Foursource is a sourcing network for professional apparel buyers, and Alibaba.com is a global B2B marketplace with payment protection. Pick on geography, minimums, how you pay and who carries the risk.

How does Sewport work?
Sewport describes itself as a marketplace connecting brands with clothing manufacturers. The process on its how-it-works page: you post an enquiry, receive proposals from manufacturers, choose one and agree a formal proposal. Its site says it offers both CMT and full package (FPP) manufacturers, and its home page says "from 50pcs per style". It claims 7,200 active brands and 1,000 clothing manufacturers. Sewport is run by Beila Ltd.
Payments run through escrow: per Sewport, part of the payment is released to the manufacturer immediately and the rest is held until the order is completed, with payment terms ranging from 70/30 to 100% after completion. Escrow is offered in USD, GBP and EUR.
Sewport's home page says "Try for free". A paid Premium subscription exists, with a 7-day free trial; per its subscription page it includes unlimited quote requests, proposals and messaging, manufacturer pairing, its Toolbox and tech pack tools, and viewing manufacturer names. The subscription page also states there are no refunds or credits for cancellations. We could not confirm the Premium price with its currency and billing period on 26 October 2026, so we do not state it; check the subscription page before you sign up.
Consider an alternative if you want to choose your production country first, you need to see factory names before paying, or you prefer to contact factories directly.
How does Makers Row work?
Makers Row is a manufacturer directory and project platform focused on US manufacturing. Per its pricing page (26 October 2026):
Brand plan
Price
What its page lists
Free
$0
Unlimited projects, browse and search manufacturers, see how many proposals each project receives
Starter
$49/month, or $39/month billed annually
Full proposals including who responded; a limited number of new manufacturer connections per month
Preferred
$129/month, or $99/month billed annually
Unlimited new manufacturer connections, direct contact details
Premium

End-to-end support plus 2 hours of consultation
The page says annual billing saves up to 25%. Factories also pay: its factory plans start at $399/month billed annually ($499 billed monthly).
Consider an alternative if you want production outside the US. For a European brand, US production means import duties into the EU or UK and transatlantic freight; for a US brand, Makers Row's focus can be an advantage.
How does Foursource work?
Foursource describes itself as a sourcing network for the apparel and textile industry, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Hamburg, and claims 55K+ companies. On its buyer pages it lists tools to find suppliers, connect, check certificates, send RFQs and compare quotes, browse 1,000+ showrooms and 1.5M+ products, and order, pay and track, plus full-service sourcing support (supplier selection, sampling, quality control and shipment).
Its pricing page shows supplier memberships, charged as a one-time fee: Growth €2,500, Premium €3,200 and Enterprise €3,900, including 30, 45 or 60 RFQ and connection requests a month. No buyer price is shown, so we do not state one.
Consider an alternative if you are an early-stage brand making 50 to 300 units per style. Foursource's tools are built around professional buyers running RFQs across many suppliers; check that the suppliers you find accept your quantities.
How does Alibaba work for clothing brands?
Alibaba.com is a global B2B marketplace across all product categories. Its home page claims 34K+ verified manufacturers. For payment protection it offers Trade Assurance: per its Trade Assurance page, you pay through Alibaba.com, the payment is held and released to the supplier after you receive and confirm the product, and Alibaba helps with refunds or compensation if the order terms are not met. The page lists secure payments, money-back, on-time delivery and after-sales protection, and claims 160M+ Trade Assurance orders, 200K+ suppliers and 280M+ products. No buyer fee is stated on that page, so we do not state one.
Price in duty and freight. For US brands, since 29 August 2025 the US has not applied the $800 de minimis exemption to any country, and a CBP interim final rule effective 24 June 2026 extended that suspension indefinitely for courier and other non-postal shipments (; ). The statutory exemption is scheduled to end on 1 July 2027. Small shipments are dutiable, wherever the supplier is.
Consider an alternative if you want shorter freight to Europe, factories you can visit, or production with an EU origin.

How do I choose a sourcing platform?
Ask the same questions of every option:
Where are the factories? One country, a region or worldwide? Production country sets duty, freight time and whether you can visit.
What does it cost the brand? Read the platform's own pricing page and note the date. Check whether paid plans auto-renew and whether cancellations are refunded.
Who pays the platform? Brands, factories or both. It tells you whose interests the platform is built around.
Can you see factory names and contact them? Some platforms hide names until you pay or accept a proposal.
Are minimums published per product? "Low MOQ" is not useful without a product and a number.
How is payment protected? Escrow, staged payments or direct payment to the factory.
Can you verify the factory? Certifications with numbers, references, samples and ideally a visit. See how to vet a clothing manufacturer.
What if I want to manufacture in Portugal?
If you have already chosen Europe, Portugal suits independent brands making small runs of jersey, knitwear, denim and casualwear. Across the 60 factories on NovaSupplier that publish MOQ data (October 2026), the median lowest minimum is 100 units per style and 9 factories accept 50 units on at least one product. Production typically takes 6 to 10 weeks after sample approval. See our complete guide to clothing manufacturers in Portugal and how to find a Portuguese manufacturer without an agent.
NovaSupplier lists 73 active manufacturers, all in Portugal. It is completely free for brands. Manufacturers pay a 3.5% commission on every order placed through the platform, including reorders. Factory profiles show names, towns, service model, published MOQs by product and listed certifications. Our page on how NovaSupplier makes money explains the model.
