Carmafil started in 1988 in Barcelos under the name Cardoso Maciel & Filhos, then went through years of repositioning before becoming what it is now: a knitwear manufacturer focused on the medium-high and luxury segment. The company is family-owned, rooted in Barcelos, and has spent over 35 years building a production structure that keeps every stage in-house.
The product focus is knitwear for womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, and babywear. Hoodies, sweatshirts, polo shirts, turtlenecks, jersey dresses, knit trousers, skirts, and co-ord sets are the core range, alongside jersey-woven mixed constructions and luxury streetwear pieces. Annual capacity is 1,000,000 units across 9 in-house departments.
The design and pattern making studio is a 6-person team that develops collections from moodboard to production-ready tech pack. Brands arrive with a brief, a reference, or nothing more than a direction, and leave with a garment. Sample lead time is 1 week. Bulk production runs 4 to 8 weeks from order confirmation. MOQ is 200 units per style.
We hold OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification and ISO 9001 quality management certification. Over 30 years of production have also built a physical library of knitwear fabrics, yarns, and trimmings that brands can draw from directly, reducing sampling time and cutting material waste. Raw materials in that library do not go out of fashion — we treat them as a resource, not dead stock.
