MD Textiles – Magic Determination Textiles – was founded in 2020 in Barcelos, at the heart of northern Portugal’s knitwear hub. The company was established with a clear vision: to be a new-generation clothing manufacturer grounded in sustainability from the outset, certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), OCS and GRS, and committed to using organic and recycled materials throughout all its production processes, whilst taking care to leave the smallest possible carbon footprint.
The product range includes clothing for women, men, children and babies: T-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, zipper hoodies, quarter-zip jumpers, sleeveless jumpers, crop tops, sweatpants, knit dresses and knit shorts. The company works with a network of trusted local partners for dyeing, printing, embroidery and appliqué – processes that take place nearby, within the Barcelos cluster, ensuring short lead times and direct quality control.
The production’s specialisation lies in the finishing. MD Textiles has built its reputation on techniques that most factories in the region do not dare to adopt: tie-dye, various types of wash treatment, distressed effects and enzymatic washes. For brands seeking garments with character, rather than simple basics, this capability is the key differentiator. The textile waste generated during production is processed by a certified Portuguese partner and transformed into new recycled yarns that customers can incorporate into future collections. Currently, 25 per cent of the energy consumed comes from our own solar panels.
We hold GOTS, OCS and GRS certification. We have participated in INTERTEX Portugal since 2023, as well as INTERTEX Madrid 25 and FOURSOURCE 26.
